Titles won, titles pending

Congratulations to the men's and women's soccer teams for winning state championships.

This is the third time that both soccer teams from the same school have won in the same year.

The teams are now waiting to find out their rankings in the final
National poll put out by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The women have been No. 1 since Oct. 14 and it is likely that they will win the national title.

However, the men have more of an uphill battle if they were to earn the No. 1 ranking.

They entered the playoffs ranked No. 13 and their ranking has fluctuated through the course of the season. The highest that they have been ranked was second. Throughout the season, the men have been ranked fifth, sixth, eleventh and not at all.

But the Falcons' playoff run gives them an upper hand in the final rankings.

According to an article by David Felton of the Long Beach Press Telegram, "The men's team was ranked 13th in the final regular-season poll but defeated No. 2 Santa Rosa in the state semifinals and No. 6 Mt. San Antonio in the championship game. City College of San Francisco (No.4), Taft (No. 7), Fresno City (No. 9) and Santa Barbara City (No. 10) were all ranked higher than the Falcons in the final poll but failed to reach the state tournament."

So it's unclear where they'll end up and I'm not going to even try to make a prediction. We'll find out next Tuesday.
